What is The New Definition of MSME for Registration Under The New MSME Scheme?

Moving away from the earlier MSME Classification, the government has revised the same within the framework of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (ABA). Not just the change in investment and annual turnover but the distinction of Service Vs Manufacturing has been eliminated as well.

Enterprises that have a new or updated MSME Registration Certificate can now avail a concession on their property’s electricity bill by making an application to the electricity department.

Protection against Delay in Payment from buyers
The maximum period for payment of purchases from MSMEs shall not exceed 45 days. In case of delays, the buyer is liable to pay interest to the SME supplier – three times of the bank rate.

Special 50% discount on Government of India fees for registration of Trademarks & Patents
Enterprises that have a new or updated MSME Certificate can now avail a 50% subsidy for patent & trademarks registration.

What is Udyog Aadhar For MSME?

Udyog Aadhaar is also known as MSME registration. This is a certification issued to the micro, small and medium size businesses in India under the purview of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Act, 2006 (MSMED). Udyog Aadhaar for MSME was formerly known as MSME registration earlier. Presently this procedure is amalgamated with the Udyog Aadhaar registration online by the Government. The aim of the MSME department for providing such businesses an Udyog Aadhaar registration are:

Enabling the MSME with an equal footing to deal with international competition successfully.

What Was The Old Eligibility Criteria for MSME Udyog Aadhaar?

An enterprise was classified as a micro, small, or medium enterprise on the basis of the following criteria, namely:

A micro-enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed one crore rupees and turnover does not exceed five crore rupees;
A small enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed ten crore rupees and turnover does not exceed fifty crore rupees; and
A medium enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed fifty crore rupees and turnover does not exceed two hundred and fifty crore rupees.
