An Import Export (IE) Code is the registration necessary for people importing or exporting goods and services from or to India. The IE Code is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industries by the Government of India. An IE Code application has to be sent to the Directorate General of Foreign Trade along with the required documents. Upon submission of this application, the DGFT will issue an IE Code to the entity in 15 to 20 business days, or less.

Who Are Exempted From The IE Code Registration?
- Importer and export carried out by the Central Government, agencies, undertakings for defense, or any other specified lists under the Foreign Trade (exemption from the application of Rules in certain cases) Order, 1993.
- The import and export of goods for personal usage.
How To Apply for An IE Code
- Exporters and importers need to file an online application in Form ANF-2A.
- The applicant needs to submit two documents which are a proof of address and a canceled cheque or bank certificate with the printed name of the entity.
